How to Get Your CPF for Free

Foreign CPF Registration form for Brazil, showing fields for identification, location, and contacts.

Many foreigners ask how to obtain the CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas) in Brazil — and if it’s possible to do it for free. The good news: yes, you can get a CPF without paying intermediaries if you follow the official channels (Brazilian Federal Revenue Service – Receita Federal, or Brazilian consulates abroad).

Applying for a CPF as a foreigner can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when dealing with Brazilian bureaucracy and navigating forms in Portuguese. The good news is that there are two official free ways to get your CPF: you can either apply online through the Receita Federal system or in person at a Receita Federal office or Brazilian consulate.

While both methods are valid, many foreigners run into delays when Receita Federal asks for additional documents or corrections. That’s where EasyCpf comes in. Our service is designed to handle the entire process on your behalf, ensuring that your application is filled out correctly, your documents are properly submitted, and you don’t lose time dealing with back-and-forth requests. We give you peace of mind and make sure you receive your CPF without unnecessary stress.

If you prefer to do everything by yourself, you can follow the free steps provided in this guide. But if you’d rather save time and avoid the bureaucracy, EasyCpf is here to help every step of the way.

Below is a clear step-by-step guide, based on the official Receita Federal process.

If you are in Brazil

Foreigners who are in Brazil can apply for a CPF directly at a Receita Federal office. The official instructions are available on the Receita Federal website here.

Another option is to visit a partner agency such as Banco do Brasil, Caixa Econômica Federal or Correios. These agencies may charge a small administrative fee, but the CPF itself is issued free of charge.

After completing the online application form and presenting your documents, the CPF number is normally issued immediately or within a few business days.

If you are outside Brazil

Foreigners who live outside Brazil can also apply. The process is simple, you need to fill out the CPF Application Form (FCPF) follow this official link (https://servicos.receita.fazenda.gov.br/Servicos/CPF/InscricaoCpfEstrangeiro/default.asp), which can be done here, and then prepare the necessary documents: a copy of the passport page with your photo and personal details, the completed and signed FCPF form, and if required, a civil certificate such as a birth or marriage record. Receita Federal also requests a selfie holding your passport next to your face to confirm identity.

Once your documents are ready, you must send them by email to the Receita Federal office responsible for the state where you plan to reside or conduct your activities in Brazil. The table below shows the correct email addresses by region

Required documents

To summarize, the documents usually requested are:

  • Passport (photo page with personal data)
  • Completed CPF Application Form (FCPF) (Available after the form submission)
  • Civil status certificate if needed (birth or marriage certificate)
  • Selfie holding your passport next to your face
  • Proof of the need for a CPF in Brazil, which can be demonstrated with a ticket, hotel reservation, or other documents showing that you will be in the country.
